BIOGRAPHY

Joe Don Baker is a character actor whose gruff demeanor and imposing stature have made him a memorable presence across decades of cinema. Collectors often seek out his earlier, grittier work, particularly his turn as the titular hitman in Don Siegel’s 1973 crime classic *Charley Varrick*, a film consistently lauded for its sparse dialogue and brutal efficiency. His initial portrayal of real-life sheriff Buford Pusser in 1973's *Walking Tall* also remains a cult favorite, though ironically, Baker would later critique its sequela. Later in his career, Baker found a peculiar niche within the James Bond franchise. After playing the villainous Brad Whitaker in 1987’s *The Living Daylights*, he transitioned into the recurring role of CIA agent Jack Wade in *GoldenEye* (1995) and *Tomorrow Never Dies* (1997). This unique dual casting makes his Bond appearances particularly noteworthy for completionist collectors. His performances, whether as a chilling antagonist or a wry ally, consistently offer a distinctive flavor to any collection, making his films staples on VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray.
